I've spent a day or so trying to QUERY and SET HKLM\Software\Key FLAGS using REG.EXE on Windows7. All it does is endlessly repeat the REG.EXE FLAGS /? help display. The
exception is if the parameters are entered incorrectly, it then displays a syntax error.

I'm running as Administrator on an up-to-date brand new Windows 7 installation. I try the same commands on a Vista system and they work just fine. I don't see anyone else having this problem so I suspect there must be something I'm doing wrong.

I've examined the properties of REG.EXE on both versions:

The Vista version is: 6.0.6000.16386 1/18/2008 59k

The Windows7 version is: 6.1.7600.16385 7/13/2009 61k

I read many articles on UAC and even one on attempting to manipulate FLAGS via API:

en-us/magazine/2007.06.uac.aspx

in-vista-how-does-the-flags-switch-of-regexe-work/virtualization

On a Vista laptop:

reg flags hklm\software query

Worked fine. Then I went ahead and used RegEdit to add a hklm\software\test key, and set its flags with:

reg flags hklm\software\test set dont_virtualize recurse_flag

And it worked fine as well.

With the new UAC levels that can be set in Windows, there is a need for some of our applications, that it should be run as the administrator user, or with a user with enough credentials to do the actions as needed.

For these applications, what we would do to run it, is the following: the commands to execute the application are in a *.bat file, and then I would right click the bat file, and say run as administrator. Most of the applications are java apps, and it typically
has the following command format in the bat file:

java -cp <jar files> <executable>

How can I modify this bat script, so that I do not need to right click and say 'run as admin' anymore, but that it is rather built in to the command, that it should run as admin? I do not mind if it then asks for a password...

I have been looking at c:\windows\system32\runas.exe, more specifically the /trustlevel option, but i could not get very far with that. Can anyone please help me out, with an alternative method of achieving what I want, or any help with using the runas application.

Thank you,

I would like to know if there is a way to run a java program, requiring administrator priviledges, via the Windows command line.

Normally you would right click and then select 'run as administrator' - but i would like to set this as a property on the command line, so that you dont have to right click every time. Is this possible?
Tue, 17 Aug 2010 12:41:40 Z2010-08-25T01:14:11Z

Situation: a program installer requires elevation. However, if the standard user could run it with their standard rights, they could install the program just for the user. So they could install games just for themselves, confined within their accounts and
not annoy the administrator (me). :P
Sun, 11 Jul 2010 20:13:06 Z2010-07-19T01:42:27Z

This pc includes the ASUS Rampage formula LGA775 motherboard, which comes with a Supreme FX II soundcard. I've had some issues getting my sound to work (I have a philips speaker set (c/pc-audio/spa9350_10/prd/nl/)),
but with some help from the local Dutch computer forum I fixed it. It turned out I had to download the drivers for this soundcard, called Soundmax. Ok, the audio worked fine for a couple of days, but today I noticed this error on startup. Basically what it
said is that I have to reinstall my soundcard drivers. But when I try to do this, I get this (translated to English):

"The files of your audio-driver do not support your computerhardware.
Note: If you have removed the audio-driver without rebooting your computer, then redo the setup."

So I went to the ASUS website and redownloaded the drivers, but they give me the exact same error message. Can anyone help me out?! This gets really annoying, because now I also can't play CoD 4, besides not having sound for music.

Oh one more thing, I'm using windows 7 64bit.
